Science From the Rooftops
Not far from the Oakland shoreline, where you can catch a dreamy, distant glimpse of the Golden Gate Bridge, is the middle school where Jess Kunz teaches science. It’s in the Fruitvale neighborhood of Oakland: only a fifteen-minute drive away from the shore, but a world apart. Here, the mists of the San Francisco Bay give way to the gas fumes of cars; the blossomy seashore paths give way to pavement, concrete, and dense urban living.

GME-West Partners with Strategic Energy Innovations (SEI)
The GME-West team expands its K-12 reach with Strategic Energy Innovations (SEI) through their San Francisco Bay B-WET grant from NOAA. The two-day event trained high school science and social science teachers throughout the Bay Area on watershed management and GLOBE hydrosphere protocols.

2021 GLOBE+ Virtual Student Symposium
The GLOBE Pacific Region is gearing up for GLOBE student research projects. The 2021 GLOBE+ Virtual Student Symposium will take place on Friday afternoon, 30 April, and Saturday morning, 01 May. This event will include peer-to-peer project sharing, and student teams will have the opportunity to present their projects to scientists related to their project’s field of study.

GLOBE-at-Home Strategies for Success!
Although schools around the world have paused in-person learning, that hasn’t stopped GLOBE Mission EARTH (GME) teachers Jessica Kunz and Zulema Gonzales from providing GLOBE-infused STEM learning for their students. During a recent round-table virtual presentation hosted by GME, these teachers shared examples of their lesson plans and strategies to engage students' STEM (distance) learning.

LOOK UP - Here Comes the Clouds!
April Johnstone's 2nd grade students captured a few clouds and our hearts recently. As a GLOBE teacher at Skyridge Elementary in Auburn California, Ms. Johnstone engaged her 2nd grade students in STEM learning by studying clouds and taking air temperature readings throughout the year.

Data Challenge 2018-2019
Congratulations to all GLOBE Mission Earth-West schools who participated in the 2019 data challenge. There were over 900 entries!
A special congratulations to Met Sacramento’s teacher, Jon Thackery, who’s class entered 518 data measurements with the GLOBE Observer App. As entering the most data, students will receive a pizza party and the class receives a customized GLOBE kit worth $250.

Fall North American Regional Meeting (NARM) 2019
The WestEd/UC Berkeley Partnership recently hosted the Fall 2019 North American Regional Meeting (NARM) at the University of California - Berkeley Lawrence Hall of Science. A total of 42 participants from over 30 U.S. GLOBE Partnerships and the GLOBE Country Coordinators of Canada and the U.S. attended this 3-day event. The first day, October 15th, started with a Professional Development workshop followed by the 2-day meeting.
