Before you read the article, stop and consider how the temperature and precipitation patterns in your local region changed as a result of the El Nino. In my area, the greater Wash., D.C. metropolitan area, we had warmer temperatures and more precipitation. Then consider how the change in weather patterns might impact mosquitos- which in my case would mean more mosquitoes as the increased precipitation is a known factor in vector-borne diseases such as Zika. So, then consider how weather patterns might change in your area if we go into a La Nina pattern- and for most of us- the answer is we aren't really sure! in the meantime, take a few minutes to read the article from National Geographic as it raises many factors, some weather-related and some based on human behavior- that impact the patterns of mosquitoes that carry the Zika virus.
