Task 1 for schools: My Tree

Here we come with the first task for Spring Campaign!
 
The first task will help students to select a suitable tree. They will learn about what data are needed to describe the site where the tree grows and will keep them for later work with GLOBE Green Up protocol. Students will also use the GrowApp to take first pictures of their tree.
 
Task 1 – My Tree

1)     Select a tree:
  • Close to your school or home, so that you can observe it often
  • One of the 7 species of the campaign
  • With at least one branch that is positioned low so that you can observe the buds closely.
  • The tree should not be shaded by a building (Ideally the tree-building distance is more than the height of the building)
 
2)      Describe the tree and the site where it grows:
  • Take GPS coordinates and write down altitude as well
  • Find out what is the Latin name of the tree species (e.g. Corylus avelana for hazel)
  • Name the tree (e.g. Hazel 1)
 
3)      Take picture(s) of the tree using GrowApp.
  • The use of GrowApp is very easy and intuitive. See the manual on the GLOBE website.
  • Share your picture here at Discussion forum.
 
You should manage to complete the Task 1 by February 28th.
