21 October 2022 - Snippets and Activities - U.S. Coordination Office

"Never be limited by other people's limited imaginations."- Mae Jemison

On Monday 14 October 2022, our team changed hats from the U.S. Coordination Office ones and put on our NH GLOBE Partnership beanies to spend the afternoon collecting macroinvertebrates and water quality data at the Cocheco River/Hanson Pines site with 4th and 5th graders from Maple Street Magnet School in Rochester, NH. We had so much fun - and our colleague from the University of New Hampshire, a water scientist, and our colleague from the USDA Forest Service came along too! And something really special happened in a crosscutting way...the art teacher was in the field with us helping students sketch the beautiful fall study site. We will get a story up and share it in the coming weeks! In other news, we are working on the North American Regional Meeting (NARM) and preparing to collect the information for our annual Yearbook!

  • Registration is open for U.S. educators and Partners for the 2022 Virtual NARM and your choice of four in-person NARM Professional Learning workshops across the country. The virtual NARM is 2-4 November and runs each day from 2:30-5pm ET/11:30am-2pm PT. The agenda will be out mid-week next week. The in-person NARM workshops for educators and Partners take place 7-8 November - a hydrology/microplastics/clouds one in Oakland, CA, a soil/land cover/DEIA one in Blythewood, SC, an urban heat island/prairie one in Toledo, OH, and a citizen science one in Reading, PA, all in picturesque settings. For registration links, more information, and draft agendas, visit the webpages. Register by 24 October 2022!!

  • Submit your 2-minute GLOBE Exchange by 24 October so we can add it to our playlist for the NARM. You DO NOT have to attend NARM to submit an Exchange video!

  • Calling all GLOBE artists! Check out this Art x Climate Project asking youth and adults for artwork "creatively visualizing climate change in the United States: its causes, impacts, and manifestations; our shared vulnerabilities; and the strength of our collective response." Let us know if you submit so we can share your work too!

    • 27 October: Meet the GLOBE Working Group members!

    • 10 November: Solar Suitcases and GLOBE

    • 1 December: Solar Eclipse

  • Evaluation Working Group Monthly Summary (submitted by Dr. Eleanor Jaffee):

    • Our group’s debrief on the new GLOBE comprehensive evaluation plan is now scheduled for 1 November. This is our opportunity to learn about the plan and represent our regions by offering the GLOBE community perspective. Feedback may be incorporated into the plan before its implementation.

    • Along with the other WGs, we will have the opportunity to ask the GIO questions about the GLOBE 2018-2021 Strategic Plan Progress Report. The better informed we are as a group about progress toward objectives, the more we can contribute to program improvement.
    • A project under consideration for 2023 that I’m personally excited about is a review of the evaluation tools in use in each of our regions. Those with the greatest potential for wider adoption will be disseminated to the GLOBE community.
