What happened in July 2019? Most of the month seemed to be taken up by the Annual Meeting which took place in Detroit, MI...but there were alot of other things too.

Partner News

• The WestEd/US Berkeley Partnership is challenging their schools in a fall data challenge.
• Boston University is training teachers this summer in preparation for academic year data collection. Teachers collected data with an IR thermometer at home for practice.
• The Institute for Global Environmental Strategies (IGES), collectively with other SciAct Partners, offered 10 workshops at the GLOBE Annual Meeting in Detroit, along with a pop-up science session at the Michigan Science Center.
• GLOBE Partner Lynn Powers was awarded the Las Cumbres Amateur Outreach Award. The Partnership is Southwest Montana Astronomical Society and the award was for her outstanding educational outreach programs. Also see this JPL story.
• Todd Toth from NASA Goddard is working on a series of remote sensing activities.
• Marilé Colon Robles, NASA Langley, was featured in the EO Kids newsletter.
• Members of the U.S. Partner Forum are working with GIO Director Tony Murphy and Cornell Lewis, SSAI, on improving the U.S. GLOBE Partner pages.
• Veshell Lewis, a PhD student of Sherry Herron, University of Southern Mississippi, published her dissertation that relates to GLOBE: https://aquila.usm.edu/dissertations/1620/.
• Evalgeline Stafanakis from Boston University worked on a film called “Achieving the American Dream” which won a Telly Award. The award is listed near the bottom of this page: https://www.tellyawards.com/winners/2019/social-video/general-public-service-activism
• Mike Jabot, SUNY Fredonia, is involved in a USDA Forest Service-funded project (funded July 1: Seneca Youth Engagement with Weather Stations) taking place in western NY.

• The U.S. Office is assisting in planning for the North American Regional Meeting taking place in Fall 2019, Berkeley, CA.
• At the Annual Meeting in Detroit, MI, I presented a Soil Tent poster created by UNH, the USDA Forest Service - Conservation Education and the USDA Forest Service - White Mountain Region, participated in several meetings and workshops, facilitated a panel on the Student Research Symposia with SRS teachers and Partnership hosts and co-facilitated the U.S./International Country Coordinator meeting.
