GLOBE U.S. Sophomores and Juniors: Apply for the STEM Enhancement in Earth Science (SEES) 2025 Summer Internship Program
The GLOBE U.S. Coordination Office is accepting applications for a current GLOBE student at the STEM Enhancement in Earth Science (SEES) 2025 Summer Internship Program. Interns will learn how to interpret NASA satellite data and work with scientists and engineers at the University of Texas at Austin Center for Space Research. This internship is only open to current high school sophomores and juniors who are U.S. citizens. You must be a GLOBE student to apply with the application below.
The program has both on-site and virtual options. The on-site dates are July 6-19, 2025.

How to Apply
Submit your online application by February 22, 2025. Items below are included in the application, you may wish to prepare these before starting the application.
1. Recommendation Letter
You must include in the application the name and email address of a GLOBE teacher who will submit your letter of recommendation.
2. Essay Questions
You may wish to answer the questions on a separate document and then cut and paste your answers into the online application. Your essay question response should not exceed 250 words per question.
- Discuss what subjects interest you most, your current academic path, and your career plans. How might SEES affect these plans?
- Please respond to Option A or Option B.
- Option A: Discuss your important academic experiences in STEM (science, technology, engineering, math) such as courses, formal science fairs, school-sponsored competitions, etc.
- Option B: Discuss important life experiences in STEM (science, technology, engineering, math) that you or others engage in outside of school, such as using the scientific process in cooking, caring for animals, and exploring nature; developing video games and computer codes; hobby astronomy, mathematics clubs, or competitive robotics, or making, tinkering, repairing, and crafting.
- What skills have you learned from your extracurricular activities that will be valuable to you as a research team member?
- How did you hear about the SEES Internship Program? Have you participated in similar STEM enrichment programs or opportunities or is there a lack of STEM opportunities in your area?
3. Introductory Video
Prepare a short introduction video. The video link will be included in your online application. Include in the video:
- Who you are
- Where you are from
- How GLOBE activities have influenced you in a positive way, or given you skills that are valuable for an academic team research setting
You will need to post the video to a video hosting site (such as on YouTube.com, youku.com, tudou.com) or your own website and then submit a link (URL) to your video. You will not share the video file.
When posting your video, do not secure your video with a password. Instead, we recommend that you make the video unlisted. The following descriptions apply to YouTube, but should be similar in other video hosting sites.
YouTube has three privacy ("visibility") settings: Public, Private, and Unlisted.
- Public means anybody can find it and view it. Do not use this option.
- Private means it can only be seen by you, and the people you select. The video doesn't appear in your channel or in search results. Viewers you select must have a Google account to log in and see the video, and you must also know to whom to grant permission. Do not use this option.
- Unlisted means that anybody who has the link can view the video, but it doesn't appear in your channel or in search results. Use this option.
